STUDY OBJECTIVES

  • In 2017, the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) has defined a prebiotic as “a substrate that is selectively utilized by host microorganisms conferring a health benefit”. NUTRIOSE® is a soluble non-viscous fiber produced from wheat, maize or pea starch with supporting science showing that this fiber is slightly digested in the small intestine and progressively fermented all along the colon.
The objective of the present research was to investigate the impact of NUTRIOSE® soluble fiber on gut microbiota modulation in healthy volunteers.

CONCLUSIONS

NUTRIOSE® supplementation selectively modulates gut microbiota to a healthier composition. Previously, several studies have demonstrated the health benefits of NUTRIOSE® in blood glucose management, digestive health and sustained energy release. Many of these health benefits produced by NUTRIOSE® were thought to be driven by the selective modulation of the gut microbiota. Collectively all these results show that NUTRIOSE® meets the requirement of the definition of a prebiotic as defined by ISAPP. NUTRIOSE® soluble fiber can be considered as an emerging prebiotic.
