Enabling high‑performance industrial formulations with cellulosic ingredients

Roquette offers a comprehensive portfolio of advanced cellulosic chemistry backed by deep technical expertise to take your industrial application to the next level. Our cellulosic polymers are derived from natural, renewable cellulose sources, such as wood or cotton. They have excellent functional properties and serve as binders, film-formers, water retention agents, thickeners, and suspending agents. Their versatile nature makes them suitable for a wide range of specialty applications, including performance materials and construction, paper and board, and more.

Roquette’s cellulosic ingredients portfolio brings together ETHOCEL™ ethyl cellulose, METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers , and Lattice® microcrystalline cellulose, to support robust, customizable solutions across industrial applications.

We can fine-tune our products to meet processing and performance targets, backed by our R&D and regional technical application teams and laboratories

Why Choose ETHOCEL™

The ETHOCEL™ EC family brings unique functional properties compared to other cellulose ethers. ETHOCEL™ is not water-soluble, making it the perfect polymer for protecting materials against water.

Product benefits

  • Unique properties: soluble in many organic solvents, insoluble in water
  • Multi-functional, binding, film-forming polymers
  • Suitable for a wide variety of industrial applications

ETHOCEL™, Markets & Applications

  • Home Care & Industrial Cleaning: used in non‑aqueous or specialty formulations where water resistance, binding, and film formation are required
  • Paper & board: barrier coating where a non‑water‑soluble film former is needed
  • Performance Materials & Construction: incorporated in non‑aqueous polymer systems and specialty performance materials that benefit from organo‑solubility, thermoplasticity, and clean burn‑out. ETHOCEL™ is also used in solvent‑based systems to form clear films, bind, for rheology control, and as a water‑barrier

Why choose METHOCEL™

METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers are water-soluble polymers derived from cellulose. They dissolve in water and, for specific grades, in various organic solvents.
Our METHOCEL™ polymers are also available in various particle morphologies, including powder, surface-treated powders, and granular formats, allowing optimized processing . This makes them suitable for a vast range of industrial applications.

Product Properties

  • Lubricity
  • Binding
  • Water retention
  • Thickening and rheology modification
  • Film formation

METHOCEL™,  Markets & applications

  • Performance Materials & Construction: Used in coatings & inks, and adhesives to manage viscosity and rheology, support water retention, and contribute to film formation and binding. It also applied in PVC systems and ceramic extrusion, and is used across construction, automotive, and electronics formulations for thickening, water retention, film formation, and processing aid benefits
  • Home Care & Industrial Cleaning: Used in household products and paint removal to provide reliable thickening and flow control for stable, easy-to-use formulations

Why Choose Lattice® Microcrystalline Cellulose

Lattice® Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) is a functional fiber designed for industrial applications. It is available in two lines to match processing needs: Lattice® NT, Binder grades, mostly used in granules, tablets, and other applications requiring a high‑purity cellulose binder polymer; and Lattice® NTC, Colloidal grades, mainly used in liquids and solutions, it is activated using high-shear, to deliver their unique functionality—well suited to paints and coatings, to name a few.

Product Benefits
Dispersible in water but water insoluble

  • Forms a 3D network of insoluble particles that improves stabilization at low viscosity
  • Suspension aid
  • High-temperature and freeze-thaw stable
  • Thixotropic
  • Safe, natural and biodegradable*

*using OECD test methods.

Lattice® Markets & Applications

Performance Materials & Construction: Used in paints, coatings, and inks where its colloidal grades help suspend and stabilize pigments at low viscosity and provide thixotropic, freeze‑thaw‑stable performance. Lattice® is also applied in extruded products and granules as a binder and processing aid, as well as in electronics applications.
