Microbiology Expertise

At Roquette, our microbiology expertise drives innovation in plant-based biotech solutions for agriculture and industrial fermentation. In our application labs, the Customer Technical Services (CTS) team combines fermentation capabilities with specialized laboratory equipment to support customers developing and optimizing microorganism-based products for biocontrol, seed treatments, biostimulants, and biofertilizers.

Our fermentation capabilities

  • Diverse microorganism experience: proficiency with a wide range of microorganisms, both aerobic and anaerobic.
  • High throughput screening: small-scale, high-throughput media formulation screening paired with statistical modeling.
  • Fermentation trials: conducting batch, fed-batch, or continuous fermentation trials in stirred tank reactors (1L to 5L), complete with KPI analysis.

 

Scalable process development 

  • Process development: utilization of multiple parallel 1L reactors for process development and formulation validation.
  • Scale-up simulation: access to 5L and 10L reactors for accurate scale-up simulation.
  • Downstream processing (DSP) Support: services including freeze drying and filtration.
  • On-seed microbials: expertise in the application of microbials on seeds.
  • Final product formulation: capabilities in encapsulation, fluid bed drying (FBD), and granulation.
  • Pilot testing facilities: access to extensive scale-up and pilot testing facilities.

Comprehensive analytical support

  • Analytical capabilities: includes culture response analysis, carbon utilization, productivity, and expression monitoring.
  • Product development: specialization in particle size reduction and fraction analysis.
  • Cell banking: conducting cell banking trials and offering comprehensive technical support.                                                                                                                                             

 

Extensive application portfolio 

Our microbiology expertise supports a diverse range of applications, including the production of agricultural microbials such as yeast and bacteria for use as biopesticides and biofertilizers. 

Additionally, we conduct fermentations to produce metabolites, including enzymes, antibiotics, amino acids, nucleotides, organic acids, and specialty chemicals.

Roquette's CTS team provides technical support to help our customers discover plant-based solutions for their formulations used in the production (fermentation) of microorganisms and their metabolites, as well as for the stabilization and formulation of their end-products. Our team is available to provide technical information and recommendations for our products based on specific target microorganisms and preferred stabilization technology. We also conduct studies as collaboration or partnerships with our customers to help find the best solution for their specific needs.
