Biocontrol in Agricultural Industry

Supporting biocontrol producers with advanced ingredient solutions

As the agricultural industry shifts toward sustainable practices, the demand for non-synthetic products is on the rise. Modern agriculture increasingly relies on Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which combines chemical pest management products with biocontrol methods, also known as biopesticides. These biocontrol solutions serve as effective alternatives to solely chemical-based pest control methods, promoting environmental sustainability and reducing chemical residues in crops. As a leader in plant-based ingredients, Roquette understands the importance of providing innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of growers. By integrating IPM strategies, Roquette is committed to supporting sustainable agriculture and ensuring the long-term health of our ecosystems.

Biocontrol needs and challenges

Growers, gardeners, and farmers seek biocontrol products that are effective against pest resistance, are non-chemical based, and authorized in their markets, all while ensuring minimal impact on the environment. The challenge lies in supporting biocontrol producers in the production and delivery of microorganisms. These microorganisms play a diverse and complex role in plant cultivation, including biocontrol properties such as bioinsecticide, biofungicide, bioherbicide, and bionematicide.

Roquette’s co-formulant solutions for biocontrol

Roquette offers a range of ingredients that address challenges in the biocontrol industry, such as improved biodegradability of the final product, protection of active ingredients against environmental factors (UV, temperature), enhancement of product dissolution/dispersion, and controlled release of active components. Our co-formulants, which are inert materials utilized in plant protection product formulations, improve product efficacy, handling, application, storage, and product/user safety.

Our co-formulant portfolio

Our co-formulant solutions include:

SOLUTAB® Croscarmellose Sodium: This disintegrant ensures the rapid breakdown of dry products to dissolve or release active ingredients. It is suitable for use in direct compression applications as well as in both wet and dry granulation processes.

MICROCEL® Microcrystalline Cellulose: This versatile ingredient is used to create dry formulations such as powders, tablets, granules, and pellets. It enhances disintegration properties and can function as a binder, compression agent, flow aid, or extrusion aid.

GLUCIDEX® Maltodextrins and Glucose Syrups: These are commonly used as stabilizing and delivery agents. The GLUCIDEX® range facilitates the encapsulation or granulation of various compounds, providing final product stabilization, protection during freeze-drying, ambient storage formulation, and encapsulation of microbials.

Dextrose: This ingredient serves as a filler, granulation, and bulking agent, contributing to the structure of a product. Dextrose is also used as a diluent to reduce the viscosity of solutions.

SOLULYS® Plant Protein Extract: This attractant is used in baiting formulations to capture insects.

By incorporating these co-formulant solutions, we ensure the efficacy and stability of agricultural products, meeting the diverse needs of growers while supporting sustainable practices.

Production of biocontrol products by fermentation

Our scientific team has extensive knowledge in fermentation, specifically in determining the right growth factors to produce  microorganisms and determining the proper processing aids for stabilize microbial formulations

Roquette offers cost-effective and sustainable sources of carbon, nitrogen and growth factors to grow your microbials and produce biopesticides. Additionally, our portfolio includes filtration, microbial encapsulation, freeze drying, and stabilization of strains or biomolecules.
