Sustainability rating agencies and benchmarking organizations evaluate company performance, sustainable development, and areas of corporate responsibility, such as human rights and climate. They use global standards and methodologies to assess and score a company in comparison to other companies across the same categories.
Depending on the organization’s method and focus, the assessment is based on research, data, public reporting, and stakeholder inputs to evaluate various criteria, such as a company’s environmental impact, compliance with regulations, and leadership in a market or field of expertise.
Assessments can be either voluntary or nonvoluntary. For a voluntary assessment, the company initiates working with a rating agency or benchmarking organization and shares information to demonstrate its commitments and provide increased transparency to stakeholders. A nonvoluntary assessment occurs when an organization evaluates and scores a company, based on public information and without asking for a company’s authorization.
Why are these agencies and assessments important for Roquette?
These organizations are important to provide a standardized third-party evaluation of a company’s performance and to help hold businesses accountable for their actions and impacts on society and the environment. Global ratings can serve as a trust signal to strengthen credibility and provide insight into what a company like Roquette values and how it stewards its resources.
Assessments and scores can affect a company’s reputation either favorably or unfavorably depending on the results. When assessments are routinely or annually performed, they track a company’s progress or show ongoing opportunities for improvement.
Customers, investors, and other stakeholders use these organizations’ ratings and assessments in decision-making, such as whether to partner with or invest in a business. The information, especially when periodically updated, is another source to monitor how a company like Roquette is performing and to inform future decisions.
Which organizations assess Roquette and how?
Roquette works voluntarily with two organizations, CDP and EcoVadis, to benchmark how we deliver on our sustainability commitment and to provide feedback and annual scores. Their sustainability evaluations and ratings are important, especially to our customers and financial stakeholders.
- CDP provides data-driven environmental reporting through a questionnaire and disclosure system for transparency.
- EcoVadis evaluates criteria in four areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. It also provides corrective action plans when needed.

In addition to these voluntary ratings, Roquette receives nonvoluntary ratings by two organizations, Global Child Forum and World Benchmarking Alliance that focus on certain areas of performance. Their assessments are of particular interest to non-governmental organizations, governments, and civil society.
- World Benchmarking Alliance assesses 2,000 of the world’s most influential companies working toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and measures their progress on climate, nature and social themes.
- Global Child Forum benchmarks companies, based on the World Benchmarking Alliance’s identified companies, and how they treat children’s rights in business and impact children’s lives. The Forum uses assessment indicators specific to these impact areas: Governance & Collaboration, Workplace, Marketplace, and Community & Environment.

How do these external assessments support and align with our life+nature program?
These assessments relate to Roquette’s life+nature 2030 sustainability program through their focus on environmental and social factors. We track and report on our progress annually with 16 key performance indicators (KPIs), centered around three engagement platforms: PRESERVE the planet, INVENT for the future, and CARE for people.
External benchmarks and scores help us see how we compare to other companies each year and what opportunities exist to improve. The ratings are evidence to all our stakeholders of the progress we have made year on year. The assessments also encourage us to continuously improve on our sustainability journey to achieve our goals and make a positive impact for the future.
