Developing and Optimizing Processes and Products for Food and Nutrition Customers
Jia Yang works in the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) powder and premix formulation areas of our production plant in Wuhan, China. With practical, responsive approaches to problem-solving, she helps deliver value for both customers and colleagues.
Jia’s specialized research background in premix and microencapsulation technology contributes to her work at Roquette. In her role as a process support engineer, she supports the successful transfer of PUFA powder and premix formulations from laboratory to full-scale production. Her work requires a strong understanding of not only the logic behind formulation design, but also the realities of manufacturing operations and process control, to ensure that technical solutions are feasible, stable, efficient, and competitive at industrial scale.
For example, Jia supports the transformation of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid) oil into powders for food and nutrition applications. She also develops mixing processes for a range of powder-to-powder and liquid-to-powder premix formulations. These products can be used in applications like infant formulas, fried foods, bakery products, beverages, and compound nutritional fortifiers.
Seeing herself as a bridge between product formulation and production, Jia collaborates closely with other departments, such as Research and Development, Customer Technical Services, Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory and Production. She looks at how various factors create a high-quality product, including consistency, batch-to-batch stability, efficiency, and yield. Analyzing these elements helps Jia continuously improve our product formulas and processes for the production line. When she optimizes a formula that goes into production to meet the specific customer’s needs, Jia likes knowing she has made something beneficial for both Roquette and our food customers.
I am very inspired by Roquette’s purpose: Together, we turn the potential of nature into the essentials of life. It is important and rewarding to me to help provide food products made from nature’s raw materials to support people’s pursuit of a better life and a better future.
When not at work, Jia likes traveling to refresh herself mentally and physically while experiencing something new.
Highlights for her include sightseeing in Beijing, China; exploring Korea and Thailand; and visiting Toronto, Canada, while studying there.
She shared, “I enjoy the sense of adventure that travel brings. What’s most important is not just the destination but the memories created with friends and family.”
