Product Profile

KLEPTOSE® HP Oral grade
Hydroxypropyl β-Cyclodextrin - High molar substitution

EP/USP compliance
Product Name

KLEPTOSE® HP Oral grade Hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin

Synonyms
HYDROXYPROPYLBETADEX

CAS Number

128446-35-5

Chemical Structure

Hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin molecule

Molecular Weight

Nominal molecular weight: 1501 g/mol

Physical Form or Appearance

White or almost white amorphous powder.
The statistical hydroxypropylation of beta-cyclodextrin creates a multitude of molecules, differing by the position of the hydroxypropyl groups. Consequently, the product is not able to crystallize and remains in the amorphous state.

Application

KLEPTOSE® HP Oral grade Hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin use is limited to oral dosage forms. It offers taste masking and solubility increase through molecular encapsulation.

Water Content (LOD)

Nominal water content: 4 %
Maximum water content: 10%

Morphology
KLEPTOSE® HP hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin - Oral grade
Degree of Substitution

Nominal molar substitution: 0.9
Molar substitution range: 0.81-0.99

Solubility

Highly soluble in water. At high concentration, the wetting and dissolution time of the powder is delayed due to its low density and increased viscosity.
Soluble in ethanol.
Freely soluble in propylen glycol.
