Troubleshooting and FAQs for LYCOAT® hydroxypropyl pea starch
Frequently asked questions for LYCOAT® hydroxypropyl pea starch and its applications
-
LYCOAT® RS 720 and 780 are very efficient wet granulation binders for batch (fluid bed and high shear) or continuous (twin screw extrusion) processes.
They can be used in two ways:
- dissolved in water and sprayed on the powder to granulate.
- blended directly with the powder to granulate and wetted with water. -
LYCOAT® RS 720 and 780 enable quick film coating using lower processing temperature making it compatible with heat sensitive API. LYCOAT® also allows glossy finish with high logo resolution.
-
LYCOAT® range is composed of pregelatinized hydroxypropyl pea starches. They are cold water soluble and offer film-forming and coating properties in various oral dosage forms in both pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. LYCOAT® can also be used as a binder in wet granulation.
LYCOAT® RS 720 is a medium viscosity version.
LYCOAT® RS 780 is a low viscosity version. -
Sorbitol and glycerol are good starch plasticizers. NEOSORB® P 100 C crystalline sorbitol can be used for this purpose.
-
LYCOAT® range is made from pea starch. Pea starch possesses a particular amylose/amylopectine ratio providing LYCOAT® specific rheological behavior leading to very good film-forming properties.
