NEOSORB®
sorbitol, the most versatile of polyols
Food
As a non-cariogenic agent suitable for diabetic
bulk sweetening, NEOSORB® sorbitol is a valuable
ingredient for various sugarless confections. It is
the most common bulking agent for sugar-free chewing
gum centers. Its outstanding compressibility enables
the production of hard and smooth tablets by direct
compression techniques.
In liquid or powder form, sorbitol is also widely
used by the food industry as a humectant or stabilizer
(confectionery, cakes, meat products and sauces) or
as a cryoprotective agent in surimi.
Pharmaceuticals
- Cosmetics NEOSORB®sorbitol is
an excellent excipient for tablets produced either following
wet granulation or by direct compression.
Used in liquid forms (such as syrups or drinkable
solutions), NEOSORB® 70/70, and more specifically
NEOSORB 70/70® SB, is also a safe, non browning
and cost effective humectant for toothpastes as well
as mouthwashes. Pyrogen-free grades are specifically
designed for injectable solutions and parenteral nutrition.
Feed Sorbitol is also useful in animal
nutrition, contributing to improve the digestion and
the growth of the animal. It acts as a nutritional supplement
to stimulate liver metabolism, for veal calves, pigs,
poultry, horses and ruminants. In semi-moist pet-food
recipes, sorbitol is a safe and palatable humectant.
Biochemistry - Industry In liquid form,
NEOSORB® is used as a chemical intermediate
for the synthesis of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), of surfactants
(sorbitan esters) and of polyether polyols for polyurethane
foams. Its role as a humectant, plasticizer or complexing
agent aids in applications as varied as the production
of glues and adhesives, papermaking or metal surface treatment.
