Avoiding industrial risks
Safety is an integral part of the Roquette strategy.
All Roquettes actions in this sphere help to reduce
technological risk and to limit the consequences of
any possible accidents.
Notable examples of the strategy are :
Prevention of accidental pollution
Water used in the production process and liable to
be the source of accidental pollution can, in the event
of an incident, be channelled into holding reservoirs
for subsequent treatment.
Prevention of explosion risks
Fine organic powders can be a cause of explosions.
In addition to extensive training and the raising of
employee awareness, this risk is minimised by the deployment
of technologies which limit both the likelihood of an
accident and, should one occur, its consequences".
Prevention of toxicity risks
In the corn-steeping process, the starch industry uses
sulphur dioxide stored in liquid form. The possibility
of a container rupture constitutes a risk. To eliminate
this risk completely, Roquette, after extensive studies,
replaced the reagent with sodium bisulphite.
